i've seen this project in two varieties.

one is a photo a day and the other is a self portrait a day. both are to log a day in your life over the course of a year while making sure that pick up your camera every day and in the process, improve your skill....

i'm going to do a mixture of the two. i take photos every day no matter what... they just don't all end up here. :o)

comment away!!

Hershey's

i love chocolate. it should be it's own food group. you know the food for your soul group.

nothing much to report about today. it was very lazy.

this was a last minute shot. nothing spectacular about it at all. and i really hate that you can see my fingerprints in the chocolate too.

thanks for the comments on the Tipton Trail gallery. it took a lot of time to get the levels right in every single photo. a lot more than i'd anticipated. it's nice to know that ya think it was worth it. :0)

how was your Sunday?

outstretched

today the hubby and i took a drive up to the Tipton County Museum. the Chief's Mess and this years selectees did some community service there and the hubby thought it would be a great place for me to shoot. he was right. there is short nature trail that winds around the building. the light in those thick trees was fantastic!

lu had asked me to do some black and white nature shots for her. so there is a whole gallery here, Tipton Trail. take a peek if you've got the time.

hope you had a great Saturday too!!

oh and both boys are 100% better. neither has a fever and both are back to their usual silly selves! :0)

injected

this morning i woke up to not 1 but 2 sick children.

Q was throwing up and had a fever. no biggie. just gross. well aside from the fact that he said he woke up w/ the vomit in his mouth already. that's pretty scary!

and T had a fever of 102.8 and a super sore throat. so sore he said he barely slept the nite before!

i called our FNP, Miss Deanna, and left a message for a call back. i didn't want to waste an appointment slot if she didn't think it was anything to worry about. since Q was keeping down fluids and crackers and his fever had broke, she said he'd be fine but she did want T brought in. between the high fever and the sore throat, she wanted to get a strep swab.

T's strep and flu swabs came back fine. so they did a blood draw. his white cells were a lil elevated and his ears were red. my baby's got a lil infection to fight. horary for antibiotics! she wrote a scrip for a 10 day course but said that an injection would help get him healthier quicker. i told T that it was his call and he said he wanted the shot.

now for the best part! i asked him if i could shoot him getting the shot and he said YES! how much does my kid rock? when i explained that he's be getting it in his lil butt cheek, he got a lil more serious about it, but was still game for both the shot & the photographing of it.

so here you have Miss Crystal and my wildly adventurous T. :0)

Q was "well" by lunch time and w/o a fever. T's ran on and off all day. this evening he was back up to 102 but after a cool bath and a round of Motrin, it was just over 100. fingers crossed that he's feeling better by morning!!

jeweled

i had a great day today!i spoke to my Dad on the phone for almost an hour. we haven't spoken much lately- too much going on so many miles apart. he's such a great man. he's always there for me no matter what. he lets me vent and ramble. he understands my twisted sense of humor because he's got the same one. it's fantastic to have at least on parent that you really like, ya know?

i know i've mentioned having two dads before. like a lot of kids my mother divorced my father when i was very young. i refer to my biological father as Daddy. he and i didn't start having a relationship until after T was born and even that was difficult. he's not really parenting material, but i know he means well for the most part.

my Dad is actually my step father, but he raised me since i was 2. he's always treated me like i was his flesh and blood. everything good about me, i give him credit for. we've struggled in our relationship at times but thru it all he's stuck with me. he's a man who never stops trying to be an active part of his children's lives. that's something to be admired and respected when you've got us for children! lol! if i'd wanted an actual wedding, he would be the one i'd want giving me away. he's listed in our wills to look after the boys if something happens to us. he's just a phenomenal guy. (i love you Dad!!)

now about the photo. when i was up in MA, lu gave me my belated birthday present. this beautiful Brighton dragonfly necklace. it came on a delicate chain w/ crystals between the links. when i got home i took it off that chain and added it to my name charm necklace so i'd always wear it. Q helped me shoot. i set up my tripod and camera. i let him push the shutter button. T picked out the shot he liked best of all of them.

so there you have it.....

oh and for those who did not read yesterdays keywords- it was a top that lights up and changes colors and patterns while spinning. :0)

thanks T for your help w/ this shot.

NACHOS!!

what's better than homemade nachos? nachos from Santana's but since i live almost 2,000 away from my favorite Mexican eatery- homemade nachos have to do when i've got a hankering.

these nachos were my one last hurrah before i get back on track Monday morning.

i hope you had a great weekend cause i did! :0)

oh and thanks to all of you who did comment on yesterday's collage. my feelings about adopting a pet from a shelter rather than buying on from a breeder are something that i feel very strongly about. it's nice to know there are others with the same/similar convictions.

beasties

my animals haven't been featured in my daily for a while. i thought it was time they make an appearance. i'd planned on only posting a photo of one of them but when i looked thru them, there was one i loved or each.

naturally the first photo of C.C. fat kitten was the best, because it took that once click of the shutter to annoy her and have her turn her back on me. typical. oh how i love her!

Brady's another story all together. he get's so excited when i want to shoot him but he's also afraid. you'd think this 100lbs of black and brown fur who looks a lil vicious would be a bit tougher. he's not tho. the cat could probably make a better attack dog than him. his shot was one of the 3 where he actually stood still. i think it shows his curiosity, don't you?

and then there is my lil Stevie. well, not so little but she's a sweetheart. i can't believe she turned 8 last month. she still thinks she should be a lap dog, laying her head on my lap whenever she can. her shot would have probably been better if Brady wasn't standing in her light. the lil goober that he is... always stealing Stevie's moment w/ his adorableness....

all three are shelter animals. thousands of animals in your area need a home. next time you're looking for a pet, please take a look around your local humane society/no kill shelter before you think about a breeder. mutts need love too.

gussied

finally went grocery shopping today. lemme tell ya, it was sad in my fridge. i don't think it's ever been that bare!! but no more. now it's bursting at the seams w/ loads of fresh fruits 'n veggies to get me back on track and all the usual staples. (i *heart* cheese- tho not as much as John. the lil piggie!!)

i had a hard time choosing my photo today. there were several that i liked but that weren't very... umm... professional. i'm not a make-up wearer. i own a ton of it, but probably wear it just a couple of times a year when i have to attend functions. so when i wear it, the menfolk in my house always gush. it's really cute.

anywho.....
hoffalady > Wednesday Aug 26 '09 day 396

roots

i took yesterday off, just trying to regroup. thus far it's not working. lol! i was up at 5 like usual w/ the boys but the hubby tucked me back into bed at 6:15 because i kept falling asleep on the couch. i didn't wake up again until 10am!! sheesh!

so nothing interesting to report and it's back to green.....

didja know that if you put cut basil in a jar of water, it will sprout roots? whenever the basil in my Areogaeden gets too tall, i snip it off and add it to one of the jelly jars i have on the table. i love fresh basil but honestly don't use it fast enough! i do think the cuttings have a very cool, very rustic look and feel.

i can see Friday from here!

hugs

i'm home!!

i'm thrilled to report that my lu is doing fantastic! she's up and about. she's healing beautifully, tho one incisions concerns me a bit. we even took a drive over to her parents house on Sunday so that she could visit. i am so glad i went to support her when she needed me. doing the right thing makes you feel good, ya know?

i landed in Memphis about 1pm, walked into the house about 2pm and walked back out at 5 for open house at the boys school.

when the hubby and i walked into the garage to leave for school, i was surprised to see a hummingbird flying around. the lil girl was trapped (not realizing that the exit was lower than ceiling level) and frantic. after about 10 minutes, i was able to gently catch her w/ T's fishing net. i held her in my hand thru the netting and went to release her by the rose bed. her lil beak had slipped thru one of the holes in the netting. i held her body loosely w/ one hand and slipped her beak free.... and just like that she flew out of my hand.

seriously one of the coolest things i've ever done. i've had hummingbirds dive bomb me when they think i'm interfering with their dinner time but i've never held one, never had one laying in my hands and look up at me. so cool!!

and yes, i know, i should have grabbed my camera, but like when i rescued the turtle from the middle of the road- her safety was my concern.

traffic

by the time we headed out to shoot, i was BEAT!! so we just walked around near the hospital. the weather was great tho! the breeze was so nice!! that's the "bad" news.

the good news is that lu comes home from the hospital tomorrow! woohoo Wednesday!!
hoffalady > Monday Aug 17 '09 day 393

strolling

after a very long day, i'm so happy to say that the surgery went wonderfully and that my lu was a trooper.

we showed up at Mass General at 8:45am and didn't get to see her until almost 12 hrs later! so between reading, joking around, eating and pacing the halls, Michael (her son) and Melissa (his girlfriend) went for a walk with me along the Charles River. it was so hot out but i haven't picked up my camera in days. i got a couple of great shots but this one was my favorite.

tomorrow after i leave the hospital, Jim is gonna be my chauffeur/body guard while i shoot downtown after dark. wish me luck!

onboard

i took a break from the dailies for a few days. with everything that was going on, i needed to just get lost in other things.

Thursday was my mammogram and ultrasound. i got the best news. my lump is only the smallest of benign cysts. nothing to worry about at all. if i have any pain or if it gets any bigger, we'll go from there. otherwise i'm boob shmush free until i'm 40! yay!

so today after a 2 hour delay, i was finally on my way to Boston to see my lu! this was taken somewhere over Massachusetts. a late lobster dinner and checkerboard cake made it all worth it!

anxious

what a day!

as promised, i started the boys day off right- cheesy eggs! since it's the first week of school and i'll miss the second week, i've been promising them i'd make scrambled eggs w/ cheese every morning. they went to school w/ big ole smiles on their handsome lil faces.

when i had just started steam cleaning the carpet in the guest room when my steam cleaner died. chunks of metal on the carpet, a burning smell in the air and one annoyed me. fantastic!

the boys bus didn't drop them off until 3:30 this afternoon. that's a half an hour later than it ran last school year. no biggie, just cuts into homework and family time. also, T didn't get his schedule and neither of them got their locker assignments or locks. i get frustrated knowing they are lugging around their school supplies all day long.

probably the best thing to happen today was the hubby's LDO interview. he did awesome and they told him so. they praised him for his diverse career thus far over and over. it's just the first step in a long process and if it's meant to be it will. i just love it when the hubby gets recognized for being awesome. he's a great sailor and loves his job.

oh and i called the doctor about my utrasound appointment. they are supposed to be calling me back.....

unyielding

really nothing exciting about this shot. it was taken as an afterthought while stopped at a 4 way stop much to the annoyance of the driver behind me. oh well.....

today was my official day off. my day to do all of nothing and love it... well, i did have to shower and get dressed for a BBQ at Tracy's but i'll have you know i was in my jammies until the last possible minute!

hope y'all had a good weekend!
