i've seen this project in two varieties.

one is a photo a day and the other is a self portrait a day. both are to log a day in your life over the course of a year while making sure that pick up your camera every day and in the process, improve your skill....

i'm going to do a mixture of the two. i take photos every day no matter what... they just don't all end up here. :o)

it was a nice lil domestic day! i found some great flannel sheets and new uber fuzzy blankets for the boys. i surprised them w/ washed linens and freshly made beds. my boys get absolutely giddy when i make their beds. it's the cutest thing.

unfortunately, i got a call from my Mama today. she said she and Daddy won't be going on the turkey day trip at all now. i didn't realize how much stress she was under about the whole thing. she's a financial planner and studying to be a notary. she's got her big test coming up in Dec. so if she's not working at her office, working from home, hosting seminars or off meeting clients- she's studying. the recession has been hard on her business and she's been working her tail off. she and daddy both have to work the day before turkey day and would be driving out on Thanksgiving. that would only give them half a day w/ us. so that's off for this year.

sorry Boo!! i would have loved to spend a lil time w/ you too!! maybe next year? we've only got 1 more Thanksgiving after this year and it's an annual family trip. odds are we'll be there! :0)

today's shot is a bit different and a first for me too.i love night time traffic shots but don't really have anywhere close that's safe enough (or interesting enough either) to do it out here in the country. so i put my camera on the dash while i was driving Vernando home tonight and just shot randomly. it was actually really fun to have to wait until i got home to see what i'd ended up with. whatcha think?

changeling

not a bad day. the weather was gorgeous! warm, clear and breezy!! such a treat!!

the hubby was feeling well enough to go to work and said he's no longer in any pain, just sore. the boys had good days at school and even discovered that the latest Vladimir Tod book (teen vampire). both boys even agreed to do a lil location scouting with me for this weekends shoot.

the only dark lil rain cloud on the day was find out that the hubby's turkey day leave won't be as long as we'd hoped. we'll drive to South Toledo Bend on Wednesday and drive home on Friday. quick turn around. usually we get more time off but most of his division is taking leave too and they are trying not to have too much overlap. so lame but not unexpected. i'm just thankful to have him home. we've been really lucky throughout his career and he's only missed the birth of 1 son, 3 turkey day's and 2 xmas's. not to shabby over a 14.5 year Naval career.

today's shot is my T. my lil changeling. next week he'll turn 13. it's mindboggling how quickly he's grown.....

thank you so much for all the well wishes for the hubby's recovery. y'all are the best!! and when i told the boys how many people commented on their grades... well, they got a lil embarrassed.

honors

the hubby had oral surgery this morning. he ended up being in more pain than he anticipated. so i did my best to keep him entertained, fed (soft food only) and comfortable. poor guy. i'm hoping he'll wake up feeling better tomorrow.

today was report card day! both boys made A's and B's, w/ one C thrown in for T. with all A's and B's, Q made the honor roll.... he also made my daily.

leggy

another mellow Sunday in the Hoffman house! football, Facebook and family.... or something like that! :0)

how about my Pats? 59-0?? could the Titans be any worse? did they even show up to the game? wow....

the only kink in my day was towards the end (other than not having a daily shot). a couple of my friends on FB, people i grew up with, brought out their political soapboxes. i think my status update expresses how i feel about it all....

"April Hoffman loves that we live in a country where we can have differing points of view... i only wish people would respect your opinion as YOURS not an attack on them or "family values" or some such nonsense... it's an opinion... we don't have to agree or force our views on anyone else.. it's called respect. peace. love. respect."

back to the grind tomorrow.... hope y'all had a great weekend! oh and thanks for the comments on the Bel Air! :0)

cherry

first of all this shot isn't normally my style. i'm the keep it simple and clean chick... but i really wanted to make this '56 Chevy Bel Air pop. there were a handful of shots that i also liked and did a bit of PP on them. you can check them out in my Americana gallery if you wanna. :0)

i had the bestest day today! we went across town to a tiny lil fall festival here. it wasn't anything super exciting but the weather was beautiful (cool and clear), the sun was shining and the smell of funnel cake lingered in the air. plus deep down i'm a car girl.

i had a meeting w/ clients this afternoon, too. we talked about doing their family fall portraits and scheduled them for next weekend. yay! it feels like forever since i've photographed someone not related to me...... i'm stoked.

did you have a good day?

greenies

what a great day! i lazed around this morning, uber unproductive. it was fantastic! :0p

the hubby only had to work a half day. so we got to have some time together w/o the boys, which doesn't happen often during the school year. it was chilly out today and since we might have our first frost of the year this weekend, i went ahead and picked the last of my tomatoes. they'll ripen on the counter.

when i was driving home from picking up Vernando, i told him that i thought it was time we used our fire pit for the first time. my mama gave it to me last xmas because she uses her chiminea instead. every time we've gone to use the fire pit, it's either started raining. i swear! every single time!! V's face light up and he asked if i had any hotdog- weenie roast!!

the hubby is sucha good sport. i sprung the fire pit on him when i got home and he went right to it. the boys had a blast! between the weenie roast and then marshmallow smorgasbord..... :0)

happy friday!!

leafy

i took today "off" and did as little as possible. my whole body was aching. i wanted to give it some time to recover. so far so good on my BP med and none of the side effects, thus far. i am a bit annoyed by the HUNDREDS of drug interactions listed for it but i'll just have to be vigilant... and the sooner i lost the weight, the sooner i can get off these lil pills, hopefully!

i did learn from my aunt that my grandmother (my fathers mother) had heart disease. it wasn't what killed her but it kept her in the hospital more often than not. i'm still waiting to hear if it was the plaque build up kind (my cholesterol is fine) or the rate and rhythm disrupting variety, which is hereditary.

the boys had a fall festival after school today. i thought i'd head straight over after picking up Vernando and we could all have a lil fun. unfortunately there was a misunderstanding on T & Q's part. instead we came home almost right away w/ neither T nor Q speaking to me. oh well.

i'd wanted to get some shots at the school but it was pretty much mayhem. i wouldn't even say organized chaos because that would be a total lie! LOL!! so today it's leafy lettuce. :0)

btw, thanks for all the comments yesterday. i appreciate you.

drenched

i woke up this morning tired and feeling a lil off. not really sick and no pinpointed pain but not right either, but i pushed on. i got the boys off to school, took my walk and even managed to get this shot in the foggy early morning light. i had a quick brekkie by mid morning but still couldn't shake it. so i figured i'd lay down and make a lil power nap would right me.

but i couldn't quiet my body. in the stillness and peace of my bed, i did realize that my heart was racing. i took my resting heart rate and it was 120. i called my FNP's office for an appointment and i was a bit shocked to find that when i spoke my voice was hushed like i was out of breath. they said to come in immediately.

driving the 3 short miles, gave me just enough time to panic making it worse, i'm sure. (just being in the office did calm me a teeny bit because i knew if anything was going to happen, i would be well taken care of.) my BP was 168/113!! i was quietly given an albuteral treatment to dilate everything and by the time i was laying down for an EKG, i could feel my heart slowing a bit. the EKG was normal. during the exam my heart sounded fine, fast, but not off.

Miss Lisa, who i was seeing for the first time, went back thru my charts and noticed that my blood pressure had been high or borderline the last couple of visits. so she prescribed a med to lower my BP.

thankfully by the time i got home, the hubby was home from his appointment in Memphis. he went and filled my scripts. within an hour of taking my med my resting heart rate was 78, well w/in the normal range. i felt right as rain.... just exhausted.

the moral of the story is:

 1) listen to your body, especially you ladies, heart disease is the #1 killer of women! and since they don't know exactly what causes it- we have to be vigilant to take care of the only heart we heave.

2) my lu is always right! she knew my BP had been high before and she remembered times when i had felt off before.

onion

normally during the school Monday is my favorite day of the week. this week it was today. i have my routine when everyone is outta the house. i don't have to take anyone else's feelings into account. i can just do my thing. today that included taking my walk (while giving John a hard time on Facebook), eating my brekkie on the couch while i watched last weeks Medium and doing the grocery shopping.

while i was at the commissary, i ran into a co-worker of the hubbys. he's been telling the hubby for ages that he wants me to do some family portraits for them. we got to talk a bit in the produce aisle. we have to get those done in the next few weeks before the trees are naked!

oh rain... you're here again.... *sigh*

spoiled

i'm back (again) i took a break from pretty much everything electronical starting last Friday and spent time w/ all my men. nothing too exciting happened... :0)

the hubby had today off and the boys went back to school. so it was almost business as usual for me. the hubby even went w/ me on ly morning walk. he's a good egg.

it sprinkled on and off all day but they are calling for rain every day this week. so, photographically, i'll be focusing on the lil things.

hope y'all have been well! :0)

trumpeter

we'd been planning to go to the zoo today for a couple weeks. the hubby even took a day off to go w/ us and see the new Teton Trek exhibit featuring grizzly bears, timber wolves and elk. then i woke up to heavy rain! i was sure our day was off before it even started, but the showers stopped just as quickly as they started. so w/ raincoats in hand, we headed off.

i like to support whatever zoological society we're living near. so we get memberships/annual passes wherever we live. the Memphis Zoo is an okay zoo. (being from San Diego, i was raised w/ a different level of zoo.) they do one thing that i've never seen anywhere else tho that i think is cool. they allow member to preview exhibits before they are opened to the public. today was the last day of the preview for the Teton Trek before it opens for everyone tomorrow.

so here we are all excited to see the new additions to the zoo, only to find out that all the animals for it are off exhibit while the make last minute changes to the exhibit! LOL! figures right? well at least it didn't rain on us too!

not a bad day over all tho. had a great lunch out on the way home, my Red Wings won and i made brekkie for dinner.

as for the shot, i did have to tweak it a lil to get the texture of the head feathers to stand out a bit. the sky was overcast and gray the entire time we were at the zoo and it showed in my photos!

pawed

other than waking up at 3am, wide awake, today was a pretty ordinary, domestic day. i broke our my new steam cleaner (the other one burned up while in use!) and cleaned the carpets in my bedroom and the dogs room. i made cheeseburger salad and sweet potato fries for dinner. so delish.

again what i'd planned for my daily wasn't to be. so i figured it was time for a self portrait. the light in my office is always beautiful in the evenings. me + light + hardwood floors = good photo? nope! it means the dogs are gonna mess with me!!! i much have taken 30 shots and all of them had one mutt or another in it! if it wasn't someone licking my face, it was one of 'em walking in front of the camera. it was actually pretty funny. everything that's wrong w/ this shot is why i love it- the lens cap next to my head, Stevie's paw in the top of the frame, my eyes being half closed and even how unflattering it is of me!! the light is great on my face tho. :0)

blinds

the shot i was planning for my daily didn't happen. it seems like whenever i plan a shot out it falls apart w/o fail! lol! but the blinds in my bedroom caught my attention.

dark ominous clouds and rain kept the boys and i inside most of today. i didn't get nearly as much done today as i'd planned either, but tomorrow is a new day. :0)

i got a surprising phone call tonite after dinner. our FNP called the house. she said that it had slipped her mind to tell me Monday morning while we were in but the results of T's nasal swab had come back. he didn't just have the regular flu last week. he had H1N1, the swine flu. she said that she treated it properly, he responded to that treatment and since no one else in the family got sick, we were in the clear. i'm still kinda shocked. it pays to go to the dr even when you think it's just a lil cold!!

oh and about yesterday's shot, first off, i'm glad i made y'all laugh! Vernando is a constant source of laughs for us too. it's only been 19 months that our families have known each other, but he started calling us family not long after we met. at first i was Mom2 but now it's just Mom. (tho he has me listed in his cell phone as Mom2! so cute!) T and Q were not in the car w/ me when i took that shot and i'm pretty strict when it comes to behavior in a moving vehicle. if i can hear you over my music and you're under the age of 21, you're too loud. LOL!

beat

now i had had beautiful fall foliage shots but this one.... i couldn't resist! poor Vernando, my son from another mother, pass out hard while i was driving him home from school. my poor angel!

got my flu shot and had a great day today. whoever thought the words "flu shot" and "great" would be used in the same sentence? lol!

i had a stroke of brilliance over the weekend. i had planned to make up a flyer to bring w/ me to my FNP's office today and see if they might let me put it up to attract some business. then it hit me! i'd make up one for the staff for a FREE session. i took it in w/ a few business cards and Sonikia, my favorite receptionist/nemesis, was over the moon. she said she's put it up in the break room BUT she wanted flyers AND a lot more business cards for the patients! yay!! came back home and made those up too. i'm thrilled!

the boys have this week off for fall break and it's seriously feeling like fall! it rained all day Sunday and didn't get above 53*! today "warmer" but feels just as chilly. craziness!

first of all lemme say that i hate this shot.

all day rain and grey skies were uninspiring. tho this evening the wind was picking up and tearing leaves from the trees. that could have been great w/o the rain. this was taken after dinner but by then my idea for the shot was no longer optional. blah.

fotoeffects asked about yesterday's shot. since i was driving at 40 mph at the time, i just had my camera set to auto, w/ no flash. the actual exposure length was 1.6 seconds. i cropped the lower edge of the shot out (tiniest bit of my hood) and adjusted the blacks to smooth out the grain in LR.
