i've seen this project in two varieties.

one is a photo a day and the other is a self portrait a day. both are to log a day in your life over the course of a year while making sure that pick up your camera every day and in the process, improve your skill....

i'm going to do a mixture of the two. i take photos every day no matter what... they just don't all end up here. :o)

day 344

delivery

my birthday gift from Dad & June arrived today, this gorgeous phalaenopsis (moth) orchid. it's huge! it's over 2 feet in height! i really wanted to get a shot that showed it's size but no angle did it justice. this was my favorite shot of it. i liked the angle and the light. it just looks different. i did take a more detailed shot of a bloom. it's here.

thank you June for putting so much thought into my gift. it means the world to me that you love me so much. i adore you!

and Dad... thanks for Skyping with me! it's so cool to see your face again. i miss it... a lot.

onions

nothing fancy here. these are my first crop of sweet yellow onions. they are only about the size of a golf ball but i'm pleased with them. it's the first time i've grown onions... tho i did cheat and use starter plants. don't tell my dad! he always uses starters and i usually always start from seeds.

is it fall yet??

day 341

masterpiece

this is probably the best sandwich i've ever made. it is a buffalo chicken sandwich on soft French bread w/ mayo, mustard, ranch, Frank's buffalo wing sauce, sliced chicken breast, romaine lettuce, red onion, avocado and baby Swiss. it was so yum! (tomorrow is the last day of birthday week and then i'm back on plan and working out like usual.)

the boys enjoyed their sleepover w/ V. i didn't expect anything less, but i was kind of surprised to learn that they had 2 can's of Pepsi each. after their pizza dinner, Q had Jell-O w/ whipped cream and T had 10 cookies! we;re fairly strict when it comes to sweets. typically the boys don't get soda of any kind, considering how much we've spent on braces, maintaining their prefect smiles and sealants. there is one exception to that tho. usually when they are w/ their grandparents (any of the 3 sets of 'em) or at their Gran Grace's (great grandma) house. usually caffeinated soda is something i try to steer them clear of completely. the only sweets they get at home is after dinner if they have eaten all their veggies and those portions are controlled.

i think our being strict w/ it tends to make them go a lil overboard when they have the chance to, but that's typical kid stuff.

i'm kinda torn about something. tomorrow is Father's Day and the hubby swears he doesn't want or need anything. he's very clear about it- no gift.... but i wanna get him something!!! grrr.....

day 340

zzzzzz

this is how i saw the boys this morning. Q wrapped up in his sheets. nothing but a giant blue lump on his bed. T snoring and V asleep w/ his glasses on. those boys... too cute.

we had a quiet day. it was hotter than the surface of the sun today and it's only mid June!! i can't wait to move to a cooler climate.

the boys are sleeping over at V's house tonite. so the hubby and i went out to dinner. it was nice to spend some time alone. plus he's easy on the eyes. we came home and had a swim after dinner. the water was so warm!

happy Friday!

day 339

bouquet

this is the lovely bouquet i recieved from my friend Val. she's a sweetheart!

nothing exciting about today. i did think i was going to end up losing my mind thanks to the boys but they got their act together before my eyes bugged out. it's that time of the year here i guess. when it's 95* at 9am w/ a million percent humidity. right now they can't go in the pool because Vernando can't and he's been over everyday this week.

yay! tomorrow's Friday!!

day 338

shining

this is not how i saw this shot turning out at all but it's all i shot today. i'm a bit disappointed. oh well.

today's my birthday. i got phone calls, emails and a couple of cards from all my peoples. it was really nice to be thought of.

i even got two surprises. i'd told the hubby not to get me anything because i just got my iPhone a couple months ago and my beautiful necklace a few weeks ago. but he got me something anyway! i got an AeroGarden!! i've been wanting one for years! totally surprised me! and a good friend of mine also sent me flowers! i know my lu has a present for me but i told her to wait until i get to Boston to give it to me. Mama & Daddy sent me money and i got a haircut with it. i'm wicked cute again. June is still working on my gift. she wants things done exactly as she wants them so. so i let her work it out and just smile. but my favorite gift is my homemade card and coupon book from my boys.

happy 34th birthday to me! :0)

day 337

yellow

most of my sunflowers have opened. they make me smile everytime i see them. :0)

nothing too exciting about today. the boys had Vernando over. so it was video game madness. V had his 11th surgery for his cleft lip & palette on Monday. he's a trooper that boy.

day 336

bunny!!!

okay James- here's the big surprise. just a lil cutie bunny. no big deal. it's just that since we moved off base, i have only seen a couple bunnies! i used to have them in my yard every evening. (we also don't have as many squirrels in the new neighborhood either.)

i love rabbits. i think they are possibly one of the cutest critters around..... i am also deathly allergic to them. the last time i held a bunny, my throat almost swelled completely shut.

anyhow, my Monday was good. it started off with this lil guy in my front yard. he let me get w/in 15 feet of him to shoot. the boys and i hung out for the rest of the day. we'd been waiting on another massive storm to hit and i didn't want to get caught out in it. the hubby came home from work and missed his class because there was no power on base. whent he storm finally did hit, it was just the usual, wind, rain and thunder 'n lightening. i did have to make a lil wind barrier for my veggie box! i was sure the wind would snap my tomato plants off at the base!

day 335

webbed

woke up to more of the same- howling winds, driving rains and my ole pals thunder & lightening but they all blew out by late morning. the rest of the day was really bealutiful. but it was the usual Sunday routine for us- hanging out, watching movies and floating in the pool!!

not a bad way to spend a Sunday! :0)

day 334

spasghetti

not a typo. that's how T used to say spaghetti when he was smaller. so it's what i call it at home. spasghetti nite at my house, like most, is "the best nite ever" according to the boys. spasghetti and man sized meatballs.... oh my boys are such characters.

well, i think we should take it as a sign that we're not supposed to go into town for a while. we ran down the road to the nearest Lowes to get a few things and the power went out in that town AGAIN! driving to and from we saw a lot of tree branches but no downed trees are damage to homes. so that's a good thing.

i've had to put netting over my veggie box. my lil mocking birds have taken to eating the strawberries. i've had 4 so far that have been eatten up before i could pick them.

the weather was great today.... it's not supposed to last tho....

day 333

volunteer

today you get 3 shots for the price of one. :0)

before the massive storm that pummeled this area, the hubby and i took a drive over to the fire station in our tiny town. we'd noticed this old fire engine just off to the side, neglected. it was actually in better shape up close than you could tell from the road.

the weather was fine, about 81 but muggy as all hell. i was out in a tanktop, capris and flipflops when we went to run errands. we listen to the radio on the drive and there was zero weather reports. we noticed lightening in the distance and the hubby checked the weather on his iphone- not a peep about what was about to happen.

we were in GameStop, checking out when the power went out. when i looked outside it was completely black, sheets of rain falling. the sun doesn't set here until just after 9!! of course we were parked on the far side of the parking lot and had to run to the Pilot in that crazy rain. it looked like the power was out for the entire town.

it took us an extra 10 minutes to get home because there was no visibility on the roads. the hubby called the boys and they said it was barely raining at our house and we still had power.

when we arrived home, we found one of our Bradford pear trees had been split in half, probably do to winds. all the local tv stations were w/o power but 1 was broadcasting thanks to generators. come to find out 130,000 homes in Memphis and Shelby county were without power. the storm was massive in size and had gusts of 120 mphs but there were only a few tornadoes sighted and no fatalities reported (as of last nite). most of the damage was due to winds and flooding from the epic rainfall.

we live about 50 miles north of Memphis. so we were on the upper edge of the storm and really didn't get more than a strong thunderstorm. we're safe and sound. thankfully.

as for the other 2 shots, the clouds were gapping a bit about sunset and the colors were fantastic. i couldn't resist the light. when i have posted more than 1 shot in the past, the others have gone w/o much notice but this time i don't care. i am a sucker for gorgeous light. :0)

buddies

the hubby has watch tonite. so he's home all day today and then working from 2pm to midnite. he went grocery shopping with me. i'd forgotten how much fun he is to have around during the day. i really lucked out when i found him.

the boys and i hung out while he was at work and watched movies. first up was Finding Nemo. i don't want to ruin it for everyone but rest assured- Nemo is okay. i actually got tear watching it for the millionth time. i remembered when we first saw it together years ago and the boys were little. Q and T were obsessed w/ Squirt! we lived in Hawaii then and whenever we saw any sea turtle at the beach no matter how big- they both swore it was Squirt.

i finally got around to shooting my sunflowers in the evning light. i'm sure i'll shoot them again once they've bloomed. i didn't notice those lil nubs where the leaves meet the stem until i was up-close to them. i never knew sunflowers had more than one flower per stalk, if that is infact what they are, those lil buds.

thank you all so much for your comments on yesterdays shot. i always knew y'all were a great group of people but i was honestly floored by some of your comments.
