day 333

volunteer

today you get 3 shots for the price of one. :0)

before the massive storm that pummeled this area, the hubby and i took a drive over to the fire station in our tiny town. we'd noticed this old fire engine just off to the side, neglected. it was actually in better shape up close than you could tell from the road.

the weather was fine, about 81 but muggy as all hell. i was out in a tanktop, capris and flipflops when we went to run errands. we listen to the radio on the drive and there was zero weather reports. we noticed lightening in the distance and the hubby checked the weather on his iphone- not a peep about what was about to happen.

we were in GameStop, checking out when the power went out. when i looked outside it was completely black, sheets of rain falling. the sun doesn't set here until just after 9!! of course we were parked on the far side of the parking lot and had to run to the Pilot in that crazy rain. it looked like the power was out for the entire town.

it took us an extra 10 minutes to get home because there was no visibility on the roads. the hubby called the boys and they said it was barely raining at our house and we still had power.

when we arrived home, we found one of our Bradford pear trees had been split in half, probably do to winds. all the local tv stations were w/o power but 1 was broadcasting thanks to generators. come to find out 130,000 homes in Memphis and Shelby county were without power. the storm was massive in size and had gusts of 120 mphs but there were only a few tornadoes sighted and no fatalities reported (as of last nite). most of the damage was due to winds and flooding from the epic rainfall.

we live about 50 miles north of Memphis. so we were on the upper edge of the storm and really didn't get more than a strong thunderstorm. we're safe and sound. thankfully.

as for the other 2 shots, the clouds were gapping a bit about sunset and the colors were fantastic. i couldn't resist the light. when i have posted more than 1 shot in the past, the others have gone w/o much notice but this time i don't care. i am a sucker for gorgeous light. :0)

day 332

buddies

the hubby has watch tonite. so he's home all day today and then working from 2pm to midnite. he went grocery shopping with me. i'd forgotten how much fun he is to have around during the day. i really lucked out when i found him.

the boys and i hung out while he was at work and watched movies. first up was Finding Nemo. i don't want to ruin it for everyone but rest assured- Nemo is okay. i actually got tear watching it for the millionth time. i remembered when we first saw it together years ago and the boys were little. Q and T were obsessed w/ Squirt! we lived in Hawaii then and whenever we saw any sea turtle at the beach no matter how big- they both swore it was Squirt.

i finally got around to shooting my sunflowers in the evning light. i'm sure i'll shoot them again once they've bloomed. i didn't notice those lil nubs where the leaves meet the stem until i was up-close to them. i never knew sunflowers had more than one flower per stalk, if that is infact what they are, those lil buds.

thank you all so much for your comments on yesterdays shot. i always knew y'all were a great group of people but i was honestly floored by some of your comments.

day 331

untitled

still feeling uninspired. i need to shake things up. i thought i'd do some cool night time shots of the moon and blurred motion of the kids running around the yard in the moon light..... i should have checked before putting all my eyes in that basket. there was no moon. seriously. not even a sliver.

but......

you know that friend you have who is honest to a fault when it comes to all things creative? the one who has been known to critique finger paintings? the one that speaks their mind about art because they share that passion for the beauty in everything around you?

i have that friend.

and while i don't always love what she has to say about my passion, i respect her opinions because i know they aren't biased in anyway due to her love for me.

something she said to me today literally gave me chills and later brought tears to my eyes. it wasn't just her understanding of my vision or even her shared appreciation of faces and the stories they tell in so many subtle ways...

it was her belief in me and what i can accomplish when i have a camera in my hand.

thank you, June. thank you for your honesty, for your friendship, for your laugh and for your love. you don't know how much you mean to me and i do not think i could ever tell you just how thankful i am to have you in my life. mere words can't contain all my feelings.

day 330

polliwogs

spent a lil more time in the pool than i usually do and have the slightest of sunburns to prove it. none of the shots i took were spectacular but i think the collage is okay. i got some good ones of T but there was always something in the shot i didn't like and Q's mask was all fogged up and covering too much of his handsome face.

figures huh? i hope this "dry spell" doesn't last too long....

in other news, i might have a family shoot this weekend. i'm waiting to hear back. it might be just the nudge i need to get back my usual spark..... :0)

day 329

uninspired

my creative well took a beating today.... i came up with nothing!! as a last ditch effort i took my tripod & remote out into the backyard for a self portrait. naturally the one i liked best was far from serious/pretty..... oi.... i hope something better comes tomorrow.....

Mondays are usually my favorite day of the week. at least during the school year, but right now they kinda suck. the hubby leaves at 5:30am and doesn't come home until after 9pm on Mondays for the next 8 weeks. stupid college classes.

day 328

shorties

how could any day that ends with strawberry shortcakes possibly be bad??

omg! if you haven't seen Star Trek yet- GO SEE IT!! i'm not a Trekie. in fact, i've only liked 2 of all of the movies before this one. holy smokes! what a great movie! totally surpassed my expectations and now i can't wait to get it on on BluRay! :0)

another splash-fest with my guys. that pool was a brilliant idea!

hope you had a great weekend too!

day 327

local

we had dinner at a local place that will remain nameless because it was so bad. the only thing that seemed fresh was T's burger. so disappointing. lesson learned, huh?

the two best parts about today? playing in the pool with all my guys. nothing funnier that Q pouncing on his daddy and giving him mouth to mouth when the man was relaxing! soooooo funny!! and the Red Wings 5-0 win in game 5! can't wait until Tuesday!

day 326

outlined

this is not the shot i'd planned for the day. i was sure it would be either the boys playing w/ their friends in the pool or our mini sunflower garden. let's just say my day didn't go as smoothly as i'd thought it would. after their friends went home, our boys got a long talk about respect, integrity and loyalty. ah peer pressure. i guess this is my welcome to adolescence.....

and congrats to my hubby! today marks his 14th year in the US Navy! i am so proud of you!

day 325

charmed

yay! today i received my necklace from Twinkle Little Charm!! it's exactly what i've been looking for. ain't it the cutest? i also took this self portrait today. i thought it turned out nice but i think this shot shows off the necklace better. thanks so much MB for the link!! you rock!

well the rain that the weather man said would blow away over nite, didn't and we're all stuck inside for the day. the good news is they boys are having their BFFs over for a sleepover tonite AND i can see Friday from here....

:0)

day 324

downpour

nothing stellar here. i'd planned on shooting around the garden in the evening light... but then the skies turned black and the rain, wind, thunder and lightening followed. so no dice. the best laid plans and all that....

happy Wednesday!

day 323

floating

so far this summer has been the best ever according to the boys. yay me!

i strained my back but some time in the pool with T & Q made me forget all about it.

happy Tuesday!

day 322

finale

i spent the entire day playing video games with the boys..... it was completely worth it!

day 321

bbq

woohoo! our first bbq with friends in the new house! what a great day! i was up early so i could workout before all the hard work started. wise decision too because we ATE! it was so much fun to just hang out and catch up. since we've moved, i see all of them less. i swear all 4 boys stayed in that pool almost the entire time! they got out to stuff their lil faces and then went right back in again.

everyone was leaving right as the hockey game was starting. i got to feed people, which always makes me happy, laugh until i cried and watch hockey all in one day..... life is good!

i know those of you on my Facebook know this but for the rest, i got my tickets to Boston!! round trip nonstop for only $275!! i can't wait! come on August 14th!!

i had a great weekend!! how about you?
