today you get 3 shots for the price of one. :0)
before the massive storm that pummeled this area, the hubby and i took a drive over to the fire station in our tiny town. we'd noticed this old fire engine just off to the side, neglected. it was actually in better shape up close than you could tell from the road.
the weather was fine, about 81 but muggy as all hell. i was out in a tanktop, capris and flipflops when we went to run errands. we listen to the radio on the drive and there was zero weather reports. we noticed lightening in the distance and the hubby checked the weather on his iphone- not a peep about what was about to happen.
we were in GameStop, checking out when the power went out. when i looked outside it was completely black, sheets of rain falling. the sun doesn't set here until just after 9!! of course we were parked on the far side of the parking lot and had to run to the Pilot in that crazy rain. it looked like the power was out for the entire town.
it took us an extra 10 minutes to get home because there was no visibility on the roads. the hubby called the boys and they said it was barely raining at our house and we still had power.
when we arrived home, we found one of our Bradford pear trees had been split in half, probably do to winds. all the local tv stations were w/o power but 1 was broadcasting thanks to generators. come to find out 130,000 homes in Memphis and Shelby county were without power. the storm was massive in size and had gusts of 120 mphs but there were only a few tornadoes sighted and no fatalities reported (as of last nite). most of the damage was due to winds and flooding from the epic rainfall.
we live about 50 miles north of Memphis. so we were on the upper edge of the storm and really didn't get more than a strong thunderstorm. we're safe and sound. thankfully.
as for the other 2 shots, the clouds were gapping a bit about sunset and the colors were fantastic. i couldn't resist the light. when i have posted more than 1 shot in the past, the others have gone w/o much notice but this time i don't care. i am a sucker for gorgeous light. :0)
